Rent A White Guy, a new multilingual musical fable about life for laowai (foreigners) living in China, will get its New York premiere at the Secret Theatre in Long Island City this September. Rent A White Guy chronicles firsthand fish-out-of-water experiences through scenes and songs in English and Chinese (with English supertitles) and will be presented by Fish Out of Water Productions, which features works from Americans living abroad. Written by Anna Grace Carter (Prom Night of the Living Dead) who spent nearly half a decade living and working in China, Rent A White Guy will run from 9/19-9/30 and will be directed by Elizabeth Murray.

Rent A White Guy, The Musical: Fish Out of Water Productions to Hold Fundraising Gala and Cab

Fish Out of Water Productions is set to present a Fundraising Gala/Silent Auction and Cabaret next week in support of the American premiere of the original musical by Anna Grace Carter, Rent A White Guy. The gala will also be honoring the King of Queens and theatrical expat Richard Mazda who has been an invaluable support to Fish Out of Water and Rent A White Guy.

On September 7th, will be the Fundraising Gala and Silent Auction, an evening of hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and wonderful company on the rooftop of the luxurious Z Hotel in Long Island City from 6-9PM. Limited free tickets can be reserved at www.rentawhiteguygala.eventbrite.com. Attendees will have a chance to meet the cast and creative team behind Rent A White Guy, see a preview performance from the show, and maybe even witness a surprise appearance or two!

Rent A White Guy, The Musical: Press 3

Simon Pearl will lead the cast of Anna Grace Carter's Rent a White Guy, a new multilingual musical fable, to be presented by Fish Out of Water Productions at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City, September 19-30. Elizabeth Murray will direct.

Based on actual experiences of expats living in Beijing, the show centers on Charlie (played by Pearl), an English teacher in China who meets an agent who offers him the opportunity to pose as a fake businessman and make a lot of cash. Scenes and songs are in English and Chinese (with English supertitles).

The cast will also include Danielle Beckmann, Clara Wong, Carl Hsu, Ariel Marcus, German Rodriguez, Helene Ellford, Holly Chou, Mara Measor, Noah Brendemuehl, Paul T. Falzone, Ray Sheen, Ryun Hobbs, Shawna Shin, Ya Han Chang and ZiLong Pu.

The production will feature scenic design by Joseph Croghan, costumes by Mike Kaukl, lighting design by Sarah Abigail Hoke-Brady, projections/graphic design by John Wyffels and choreography by Dustin Cross. Musical arrangements are by Jeremy Robin Lyons and Rebecca Perlman, the latter of whom also is music director.
